Bucketlist wedding at the Sydney Opera house

Bucket-list wedding location: the Sydney Opera House

Wow, if we’re talking about bucket-list locations as a wedding photographer, the Sydney Opera House is definitely at the top! Indeed this is such a stunning and luxurious place to get married. As a photographer from Utrecht, being on the other side of the world to capture a wedding in such an iconic spot felt both special and surreal.

A destination wedding that felt like home

For me, this was a destination wedding, but for the couple, it was a home game — they live in Australia! Their setting was absolutely breathtaking. A true luxury wedding, with the ceremony held outdoors, overlooking the Harbour Bridge. The styling was simple yet elegant because, let’s be honest, when you have such iconic buildings in the background, you really don’t need much more! White chairs, flower petals on the ground, and stunning floral arrangements by Mi Violet set the scene for their “I do’s.”

A touch of elegance with music and styling

To complete the atmosphere, a trio of violins and a bass (I think?) played softly in the background. However, the real showstoppers were the couple themselves, looking stylish and absolutely glowing with happiness.

Relaxed photo shoot around the Opera House

Of course we had some time with the couple for their photoshoot. We moved to the park and the Opera House itself for the shoot. We took a relaxed approach, basically letting the couple take a stroll while we captured their natural interactions. By having them pause for some intimate shots, soaking up the moment, the images stayed authentic and full of emotion.

High-end reception inside the Opera House

After the ceremony, the reception and dinner took place inside the Sydney Opera House, the Bennelong restaurant. The space was decorated beautifully, with countless flowers adding a touch of elegance to the already impressive venue. In case you’re wondering about the cost of a wedding like this, let’s just say it’s without doubt a bit above the Dutch average!

Shooting alongside Alice Mahran

II shot this wedding at the Sydney Opera House during our trip and worked as a second shooter for Alice Mahran. Interestingly, the first wedding I ever shot was also with Alice, years ago! It felt pretty special to shoot together again, now with a lot more experience under my belt and in a place as iconic as Sydney
